Summer Waves Cardigan in Cascade Ultra Pima

I find summer here difficult to dress for, since you need to take into account the blistering heat in parking lots and the icy coldness of air conditioning.  Lightweight cover-ups such as shawls or cardigans that can be put on and taken off easily are ideal. In my search for such a garment, I came across this cardigan by Vera Sanon for Cascade Yarns. Short sleeves keep the cold breeze of the air conditioning off the shoulders and the open front allows air to keep circulating.

I chose to knit it in Pink Sapphire because most of my shirts are neutrals and the bright color really pops against a black shirt. The yarn, Cascade Ultra Pima, is a very smooth cotton with just a bit of shine. For those knitting garments to wear in business offices, the slight sheen of the yarn makes a garment a touch dressier.  The lace panels on the fronts add sophistication to an otherwise basic cardigan.

Summer Waves Cardigan by Vera Sanon

Cascade Ultra Pima

Feature of the Week: February 20

We’ve had lots of good stuff from Sublime this year and the Fourth Fabulous Sublime Merino Wook Dk book is no exception. This cute little cardigan looks perfect for spring layering.  The simplicity of the design makes it a great addition to any wardrobe.  The darts for the waist shaping add a little visual interest in the front and back, and the color block at the bottom of the cardigan makes it a bit whimsical.

We do have a lot of customers who just want a basic, good-looking cardigan that will go with most of their outfits – I think this fits their search.  Knitting it in two tones of gray or in one color are other ways of envisioning how this sweater can become a wardrobe essential.

The v-neck and the raglan sleeve shaping maintain a crisp, refined look; this sweater is well suited to showcasing a few special buttons from the button box.

Yarn required: Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool Dk  7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 10 balls of main color, 1 ball of contrast color

Feature of the Week: January 25

I love a good, comfy cardigan that I can wear at anytime. Oversized, with a shawl collar, throw in a leaping stag and colorwork motifs and you’ve won my heart.

On top of all that, this sweater is knit in a chunky yarn with tweed.  I love me some tweed and I also love me some fast knitting with chunky yarn. My only decision is what color to knit.

Although it is sized for men, the pattern is pretty unisex. I might shorten the sleeves a tad, but other than that, I’d follow the pattern exactly.  These sort of sweaters don’t require shaping, especially if you are lounging in front of the fireplace with a hot cup of cocoa in hand (if only it were true; you might need to be somewhere besides Texas).

If the stag motif isn’t really your thing, Woodstock is the name of the pattern version without colorwork.

Yarn: Sublime Chunky Merino Tweed, shown in #278 Slate and #239 Flock

Tea Leaves Cardigan

Fall will be here before you know it!

At least, that’s what we keep telling ourselves as this heat wave drags on.  Be ready for the cooler weather with the Tea Leaves Cardigan by Melissa LaBarre.

A one-piece, top-down seamless cardigan, the neckline ruching and stockinette body are ideal to showcase hand-dyed or kettle-dyed yarns.  Our store sample is in Malabrigo Rios, color Sunset, and feels so scrumptious everyone squishes a portion of it as they walk by.

The sleeve and body edgings are in simple garter stitch which prevents them from rolling (and adds extra squish).

The ruching detail of the neckline adds interest without overloading the sweater with detail work.

We left ours without buttonholes and used a shawl pin to hold it together.  Easy to throw on, this could be the perfect sweater to leave at the office, but you might love it so much you’ll need one for home, too.
