A Turkey for Thanksgiving

For the upcoming holiday (that would be Thanksgiving, for us Americans – uh, in 2.5 weeks, so you have some time), I knit up this supercute turkey from a pattern posted a few years ago on the Spud and Chloe blog.

I weighted his tummy with some glass marbles (like the kind you put in the bottom of a vase) so that he sits properly.  If I were going to be giving this to a small person, I would probably just stuff him as usual and not worry about him tipping backward or forward.

When I sewed on the wings, I was apparently under the impression that my turkey would be flying.  He looks ready for take-off here. He worked up pretty quickly, even including the time to sew all the bits together (my least favorite part of knitted toys).

I used Spud and Chloe Sweater in Rootbeer, Firefly, Firecracker and Grass.  I had enough extra of the feathers to work up a few dinosaurs (shh! they aren’t quite ready to show yet!),

New Colors of Spud and Chloe

Alongside the Techno in the boxes that arrived Wednesday were the newest colors in Fine, Sweater and Outer from Spud and Chloe.

Fine has added in two delicious greys and a light blue.

Sweater is now available in black as well as a light grey and a blue that matches the new blue in Fine.

Outer is in a crisp white, a lovely purple and a true blue.

Snow Day

In addition to showing you these new colors, we’d like to add that on purchases over $200, we’re giving away a Lantern Moon Clamshell Case set.  Composed of three pouches that nest together when not in use, each size can hold a variety of useful objects (knitting-related or not!).

Welcome Back!

Hello folks! We are so glad to be back in this space and ready to go with a brand new blog and a brand new website on the way. By now, most of you have noticed that we have been off the web for quite a while – our website was comprised by unscrupulous people and we took down everything in order to prevent anything more harmful occurring. The silver lining is that we had a new website already in the pipeline, although we have had to significantly ramp up work on the new site for an earlier implementation. We will let you know about the unveiling of the new area for shopping online as soon as possible. In the meantime, A Woolie Tale is back up and we are bursting full of new yarns, new patterns and new fiber-y toys to share with you. As always, please feel free to email us with any comments or suggestions (or really awesome things that you think we might like to share).

Don’t be surprised if this page sometimes looks a little different – some of the site cosmetics are still undergoing changes, but we would rather have this space open to you instead of a longer waiting period.

All the Ewes would like to thank you for your loyalty and support and we can’t wait to get started again. To that end, we have a GIVEAWAY!

We have our latest Spud and Chloe at the Farm kit, which includes the yarn needed to make the Brown Cow and the Mice (2 hanks of Ice Cream #7500, 1 hank each of Root Beer #7503 and Watermelon #7512).

We’re also including Spud and Chloe’s new tape measure and a cowbell for Brown Cow.

To win, tell us what you plan on work on during the summer – doesn’t have to be knitting or crochet (although we certainly like that best). Are you learning to scuba? Are you sitting in the air conditioning waiting for the heat to go away? Are you planning to learn a new knitting or crochet skill? We want to know! Leave us a comment and we’ll use the random number generator to choose a winner. We’re giving you five whole days to enter, so comments will close Saturday June 25 at 7 pm Central.

If you don’t win the kit, don’t worry, we have them in the store for $55 each (so you’ll receive free shipping).  You can reach us at 1-800-460-YARN.
